NY Deli-casies.

Hehe...like the play on words?

One of the best parts of any vacation is the fabulous food that you can't always find at home. This was me and Mom's fourth time in NYC, so there were some "staple" places we wanted to visit and return to. But we also found some newbies that were every bit as fabulous. Food is such a big and fun part of vacationing. I love the different flavors and ideas unique to each eatery.

The food in NYC did not disappoint.

(Stage - fluffy, light cheesecake.)

The City is known for cheesecake, of course. Though this slice from Stage Deli was delish, it did not EVEN compare to that of Carnegie. I'm sorry y'all, but there is NO OTHER cheesecake like Carnegie. It's so good you don't even need or want a topping on it.

The kosher pickles in every deli are so, so good. Crispy, crunchy, yummerful.

NYC-71

I forewent the enormous stacked sandwiches and usually ate BLT's when we ate in deli's. However, at Carnegie, I had an open faced roast beef sandwich that was amazing.

Um, we didn't count calories on this vacation. :)

There is a little pizza place that we LOVE called Famiglia's. We have eaten there all four times we have been to NY, so we made it a priority the first evening there.

The garlic knots (that we lovingly refer to as "knotheads") are phenomenal.

NYC-31

Oh my - I am salivating just looking at the pictures.

My most favorite place we dined was at Serendipity. Remember it from the movie?

NYC-42

We had an hour wait, so we headed down the street to Dylan's Candy Bar (which was such a little delight!).

The atmosphere in Serendipity was absolutely adorable, very unique, eclectic and fun. Very girly and perfect.

I had the "Haight Ashbury" which was a turkey sandwich on homemade soda bread, with avocado, sprouts, muenster cheese, and a delicious chipotle type mayo. Oh my WORD. Incredible.

NYC-50

I will get that exact sandwich every time I return.

For dessert, of course, we had the frozen hot chocolate.

NYC-93

Oh, and the menus were enormous.

NYC-47

Mmmmm....Serendipity.

Anyone familiar with the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld? Well, of course we had to visit, being the die hard Seinfeld fans that we are. (The past few times we've been in NYC they were closed. He just re-opened 2 weeks ago. Perfect timing!)

Rules: Have your $ ready. Order. Step to the left immediately.

SCARY.

I had the Mulligitawny.

NYC-108

It was unbelievable!

NYC-65

It came with a little baggy of fruit, bread and a chocolate. Rumor has it, if they don't like you, you don't get the bread.

Yikes!

One evening we ventured down to Little Italy and dined there. I didn't get a picture of our food, but I had fettucini alfredo. I did however, get a picture of the bread!

Well, this is about all the pictures I got of our food. We also dined at several other places that I didn't get pictures of. We ate at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill for my Birthday meal the night before my B-day. It was soooo yummy. There were several other places we ate at like Ellen's Stardust Diner (with the singing wait staff) and some other not-so-famous places.

Oh, and some cute little cupcake bakeries, of course!

We ate and ate and ate some more, and it was well worth every single bite!! Hope you enjoyed my little foodie tour!

  8. Note to self... NYC is not the place for diets!

And I would never ever be able to make a sort of decision from those enormous menus. I have a hard enough time with just twenty items!

  9. OMG the soup Nazi! In my early twenties I worked in NYC and my office was in the fur district 2 block away from this place! I remember standing in line for an hr plus at the lunch rush for his lobster bisque during cold days. It was/it the best one I have EVER HAD.

    ***so craving one now****

Ok- you may be slightly evil (like the diet coke of evil) for making me SERIOUSLY contemplate a 3 hr drive just for soup today...
