One In The Same.

Friends are like a good pair of shoes ..... we have different ones for different occasions!

I don't know about you, but I have a vast array of friends with all varieties of personalities, demeanors, interests and traits. There are distinct circumstances that come in and out of my life that call out each friend for different needs.

Let's take a journey through a pretend woman's closet and look at my definitions of different types of friends!

"SANDAL" FRIENDS

Sandal friends are fun and carefree. They are the types of friends that if you want to have a good time, you call on them. They are always up for anything, are very laid back, go-with-the-flow and when you are with them, you are guaranteed to have sore abs from all the laughing you did. These friends not only make you feel good, but make you feel good about yourself, as they are encouragers and spirit lifters.

"PUMP" FRIENDS

Pump friends are the friends you go to when you are seeking sound advice. They are wise beyond their years and have a solid maturity about them no matter what their age. They are go-getters and always get the job done. They always have your back and will go out of their way to speak up on your behalf. These friends prove extremely trustworthy, remarkably loyal and you can always count on them to stick to their word and never break their plans.

"SLINGBACK" FRIENDS

Slingback friends are talkers. They are the ones that you can talk with about any and everything, whether it be Hollywood gossip to the serious matters of life. They are great to go shopping with because they are super stylish and can keep the conversation rolling while shuffling through clothes racks and mounds of handbags. These are the friends you can talk with about hair, makeup, reality television and the latest issue of Life and Style without giving it a second thought. Slingback friends are easy to be around, always sweet, non confrontational and non judgmental.

"TENNIS SHOE" FRIENDS

Tennis shoe friends are 100% dedicated to their friendships. They are the types of friends that you can call last minute and they will throw on their converse and a hoodie and accompany you on a spontaneous trip out. They literally "come running" when you need them. These friends are genuine with absolutely no pretense to them. They are dependable beyond belief and will pick you up and carry you through any valley you face.

"FLATS" FRIENDS

Flats friends know who they are and they make no bones about it. They are opinionated, born leaders, and refuse to follow the way of the crowd. These friends let everything roll off of them and can endure some of life's greatest difficulties because of their innate strength and determination. They remind you that most things are "no big deal" and always give you a better perspective when you start to feel pessimistic. They often boost your confidence just by being real with you. These friends leave no doubt in your mind that you are their friend because they genuinely like who you are. They are real, honest and great friends.

"TRENDY" FRIENDS

Trendy friends come and go in your life depending on your situation and circumstance. When you grow and venture in and out of new phases and transitions in your life, you find people going through similar things and quickly make friends with them. Sometimes the friendship lasts and evolves into one of the above categories, and sometimes it fizzles out as you grow out of one stage and into another - or if life picks you up and moves you to a different location. These friends can turn into some of your nearest and dearest and you quickly forget the "getting to know you" stage that you started out with.

"OLD FAITHFUL" FRIENDS

You know that one pair of shoes in your closet that simply stated, are your "go-to" shoes? The ones that you can throw on and get away with wearing with any outfit? The ones that are old, worn in and just flat out comfortable? The shoes that you know will always be there, will never fail you and you'll probably own until the day you die? Well, these "Old Faithfuls" represent our best friends. The friends who knew us during the good, the bad, the old, the new, the happy, the sad, the sunny, the blue. These friends know us in and out and when you are with them, you can just BE. These are the types of friends that you can go months or years without seeing and when you reunite, you pick up where you left off and it's as if nothing has happened in between. These friends are hands down, without a doubt, always there. They are your secret bearer and sharers and honestly feel like your other half. These friends can not be replaced.

I hope you enjoyed my little analogy between friends and shoes. I cherish each and every one of my friends - from the "sandals" to the "old faithfuls". Some of them fit perfectly into one category while several of them mesh with a variety of them. Regardless of where they each fall, I realize that I have the best friends in the world.

Do your friends fall into these categories? Which type of "shoe/friend" do you think YOU are to others?
