Priorities Through Stress

Friday evening was cause for celebration. After four grueling months of Husby's CORE rotations, the end finally came and he finished with excellence! CORE is made up of the Medical Student's four toughest rotations (two months of Internal Med, one month of OB and one month of Surgery) - all at the hospital, horrible hours and weekends. Husby worked 12-14 hour shifts most days during these past four months. It's been b-r-u-t-a-l.

But it's over and we celebrated!

I made him this delicious cake.

And by made, I mean I ran to the local bakery and picked it up.

Then I came home to write on it and all I had was gel icing, so after a few hours in the 'fridge, it kind of ran. But that's okay. You get the picture.

(Eh, let's just say I was trying to make it look like blood since he's a Doctor in training and all...yeah, that's the ticket.)

That evening, my parents came up to take us out for a celebratory dinner to commemorate the end. They're such sweeties. I just so appreciate how they love my Husby! They truly love and treat him like one of their own.

(But I'm glad he's not because then he would be my brother. And that's just sick and wrong on every level possible.)

I am so happy to see these months fly away, never to return again. I will not miss the late nights, the night shift, the early mornings and an exhausted Husby at the end of every day. Though he endured some of the toughest months of his life to date, not once did he let it effect his relationship with Weebie (or me, but this isn't about me. As surprising as it is, not everything is about me, you know.)

He staggered in with eyes half open each night and mustered up the energy to play with the bright eyed little boy who so greatly anticipated his arrival. He often gave him baths and he always made sure he was the one to give him his last bottle of the night while he rocked him to sleep. Soon after that, Husby himself quickly drifted into Sleepy Town while on the couch watching TV and spending some quality time with me.

I so admire Husby and how his role of Husby and Daddy never take a back seat. Though he has the weight of the world on his shoulders, he gives us absolutely ALL that he has each and every day. The little time that he did have at home over the past four months was spent being the best Husband and the best Daddy that a girl and her little baby boy could ever dream of.

And we noticed.

(Oh! And my buddy Katie over at Marriage Confessions made me her Reader of the Month!! So honored. Go check it out!!)

  13. I just read your reader of the month thing and I can just say I totally have the same philosophy difference problem with Mark about standards of cleanliness in the home, and he doesn't have a philosophy, either. I feel your pain!

  14. 'Though he has the weight of the world on his shoulders, he gives us absolutely ALL that he has each and every day.' Isn't that a wonderful picture of how the Lord is with us? No wonder God's plan is to put babies into families with wonderful daddies like Weebie's got.
