Intercession.

When you hit your senior year of college, you have likely, for the most part, already established the lasting friendships that you will carry through for the rest of your life. You've gone through three years of trial and error on friends and you settle in to enjoy your last year with those people in your life who you have chosen - and have chosen you. The ones who know your in's and out's and those who you can trust.

But my senior year brought something (someone) who would prove that entire first paragraph to be "not always the case".

And that girl was Lindsey.

Lindsey's three apartment mates happened to be a year older than her. That means, they graduated a whole year earlier than her. Which ultimately meant that when our senior year rolled around, she didn't have any roommates! It just so happened, that of my three apartment mates, one decided to move off campus. After a series of events, Lindsey, a stranger, was set to move in with the others of us who had lived together for two years.

I didn't know Lindsey from Adam. All of my roommates knew her, though, because she was a teaching major with them and they had all of the same classes. They told me she was very opinionated. They told me she spoke her mind. They told me they were kind of scared of her.

I was nervous to get to know Lindsey, seeing that she was "opinionated" and I was "non confrontational". My roommates had me pretty shaky about the whole situation, but my roommates....well....they were DEAD WRONG.

Lindsey and I hit it off the bat the first week. We were so much alike in so many ways, but so different, too, which is why I think we clicked. She was hilarious. She was real. She was kind. She was interesting. She was just a blast to be around! I just loved sitting and talking with Lindsey, and making each other laugh. (She's EASY to make laugh.)

She was regimented in a way I never knew actually existed in people. For instance, I begged and pleaded with her to stay up til 11 with me to watch Roseanne every night. Why I watched Roseanne, I'll never know, but every night it was the same conversation.

"Lindsey, come on - stay up with me. It'll be fun. Please. You won't be tired in the morning."

Sometimes she caved, sometimes she didn't. She woke up at like 5:30 every morning to study her Bible and to work out. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. So, she took her bedtime very seriously.....understandably.

Of all of my roommates throughout my entire four years of college, I felt that Lindsey understood me best. And I understood her. We felt so cheated that we found each other the very last year, and wished we could have been roommates all along. She was so EASY and so FUN to live with. She added so much to our apartment. I couldn't have imagined it without her. It turned out that she is actually one of the least confrontational people that I know (remember the earring and shoe situation, Lindsey?) Of course she had her opinions, but don't we all? She actually voiced her opinions in SUCH a tactful and sweet way, that I was left thinking that if I should be "scared" of anyone in the house, she would be the last! I actually spoke up against some "housing problems" we experienced (not with each other) more often than she did (maybe my red headed temper got the best of me). But, she does know who she is and she isn't going to take any junk off of anyone. I love that about her. She handles herself in such a mature, wise, dignified way, that shows you how grounded she is in her relationship with Christ.

My roommates totally ate their words and they laughed about it the whole year. This Lindsey they had in their minds was NOT the Lindsey we knew and loved.

When the year ended, she was one of two people that I was going to miss the most. She was one of two people that I considered my BEST college friends. She was one of two people that I am most thankful that I met and formed a friendship with.

Last year, a bomb dropped on Lindsey. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought the long, hard battle, gaining strength and faith in God each day. What an example she is! She went through chemo, radiation, a few surgeries and finally thought this whole thing was behind her.

Until a few weeks ago when another lump resurfaced.

Lindsey has breast cancer again, a year later. It's a very aggressive cancer and right now she is in limbo about treatment, surgeries, therapy, etc. She has a tough road ahead of her and yet she boasts in the goodness of the Lord. She is a TRUE example of Christ. Trusting Him and clinging to Him in ways that I doubt most of us have yet experienced.

She is a strong lady. One that I have looked up to and admired since I met her. When you live with someone, you know their in's and out's. You know their true character. Lindsey is one of a kind. She is a jewel. She is one of my most genuine, authentic friends and she is a true warrior of faith. How I long to have faith like Lindsey.

Please pray for her. Please pray for healing. Please pray for strength. Understanding. Wisdom.

Please intercede on her behalf.

You can follow Lindsey's story HERE. I guarantee after visiting her blog to encourage HER, you will be the one left encouraged. What a lady.

I beg for prayers. For my dear, dear friend.

  17. What a beautiful post for your friend! I will absolutely pray for her & what an amazing example to show the world. The funny thing is I know another Lindsay who gets up at 5 am to read her bible and worke out every single day & without the cancer, she sounds just like YOUR Lindsey. I have been blessed to know mine for quite a while and simply can't imagine the world without that shiny example for us simple people to try and live up too! Thank you for making me think of someone other than myself!
