Nephew Update 1.

Luke and Hollie (My Brother and Sister-in-Law) seemed to be in higher spirits today, but still carrying so much stress right now. Hollie is having several contractions and is on medication to slow and control them. She hopes to stay stable through the night and through tomorrow night so that she will have a possibility of being transferred to her home hospital tomorrow night or Tuesday morning.

Everything regarding the hospital move is still completely up in the air. We probably won't know more until tomorrow.

She has Premature Rupture of Membranes and lost most of her amniotic fluid, but there is still a small pocket next to the baby's head. We are praying she can quickly build some fluid back up and that maybe his head can block the tear in the membranes and trap the fluid in. The fluid can slowly be built back from her naturally and from the baby's urine. Some women can build it back. Some women can't. Right now we aren't sure if that is a good possibility since we don't know the significance of the tear, but we know that with God anything is possible.

And we trust that His hand was in all of this and that His timing is perfect.

Each day that she can keep her little boy inside is a good day. Ideally, they would like to get her to 32 weeks (she is at 27 right now), but we aren't sure just how probable that is. Statistics show that labor will likely be sooner, rather than later. We are just praying that he will be as developed as well as he possibly can be at the point of delivery and that he will continue to fight and flourish.

I can't thank you all enough for jumping right in and lifting this situation and my family up in prayer. How absolutely beautiful is the body of Christ. We continue to covet your prayers and continue to thank God for you. You are such wonderful people and your support is incredible.

I have relayed to my brother and sis-in-law just how many of you are covering them in prayer, and they are beyond grateful. Those of you who shared personal stories of similar situations, you will never know how absolutely encouraging that has been to them as I share your stories. They cling to every word.

Keep up the good work of sweet prayer, my friends. KNOW that you are playing a significant role in this precious child's life right now.

I will keep everyone updated as we gain more knowledge. I will continue regular postings in between.

Love you all.

  10. Whitney, I'm one of Kelly and Allison's friends, and I so enjoy reading your blog! I wanted to let you know that I am praying for your sweet nephew (and brother and sister-in-law), but I also wanted to pass along some encouragement. A couple here in Alabama has recently gone through a similar journey - and they just brought their baby home this past weekend. It might be encouraging to check out their blog? http://beauandbrittanydaniel.blogspot.com/ Just thought I'd pass it along...

  18. I'm still covering them with prayer. No matter what happens, God is still in control.

We have a song at our church called"I Know My God is Faithful, and this is the chorus:

I know my God is Faithful
I know His Word is True
I know His Grace is sufficient
And I know He'll see me through

  20. Hi Whitney....I'm the Mom who wrote about my twin boys being born at 29 weeks from your last post. I wanted to pass on some info about a wonderful book that really helped me understand what I would be dealing with after my babies were born and in the hospital that maybe you could tell your brother and sister-in-law about. It's called "The Premature Baby Book". It offered so much insight to the medical side of our fears and was very informative. I read many books about prematurity, but this one was the easiest to understand. Hope it helps....your family has a long road ahead of them, but it is so important to get their rest and leave their fears for the Lord...He hears them and has a plan. Fear not!

  22. Oh, Whitney. I just read all about your family's struggle right now. Know that they are in my prayers. You are so right - how perfect is the body of Chris? In Him all things find their time and season. Even and especially precious little babies.

  25. Hi, Whitney, I am a NICU nurse and have taken care of babies in just the same situation as your precious nephew. Babies are truly such little fighters and I see miracles and the work of God everyday when I go to work. Praise God that he has made it to 27 weeks and is hanging in there!
'The Premature Baby Book' that Erin mentioned is by Dr. William Sears. Highly recommended.
