Chapter Four
My Savior’s Satisfaction

My Junior year came to a rapid close, and I was ready for the year to be over. I was itching for summer and itching for some excitement. The mundane, same ole – same ole days at school were boring me to tears. When the last bell rang for the summer, I bolted out of there and started my quest for adventure.

I had my summer plans set in stone, which of course involved my 10 day Bible Boot Camp in Tennessee. I hadn’t given much thought to Darin Gatsby and the whole situation with the possibility of them moving there, unless it was brought up. This was my last summer before my Senior year of High School. It was also my first full summer that I got to drive (I was almost the youngest in my class). I was excited to go on day trips with my friends, summer vacation with my family, hanging out and creating new memories with everyone, and of course camp, so everything else in my mind was on the back burner. I had a lot to look forward to. A summer full of excitement.

Camp in Tennessee was excellent that year. It was my last year as a student attending and I planned on working there as a counselor in my college summers. I remember learning so much in those ten days, and it was vital Truth that unbeknownst to me, was going to help get me through the next few years. I grew a deeper passion for Jesus and again, was reinforced with how important my relationship with HIM was, before any other earthly one. He reminded me that until I was completely and solely content with HIM as my satisfaction and love source, that then He would provide an earthly love. He reminded me what I was worthy of, and what I deserved. He drew me closer to Him as I sought harder after Him. He showed me and let me feel His unfailing love, and I was challenged to make Him better known in my life. I wanted my Senior year of High School to be one I would remember forever. I wanted to leave my mark on others’ lives in my hometown and set an example. I was reminded of the “deal” I made with God years before, and was determined to continue sticking with that, especially through this last year home.

It was sometimes hard to keep my focus at this camp, because I was surrounded with 115 of the most wonderful teenagers from all over the US. Half of those, being unbelievably godly, precious and absolutely beautiful…….boys. Whew, there was no greater turn on for me in a guy: one that lifted his hands singing praises to the same Jesus that I talked with daily, bowing before the Lord and crying out to Him, knowing and desiring His Word, with a true thirst and a ravenous hunger for more of Him. They displayed impeccable manners and had such interesting conversation. Did I mention they were beautiful? Yes, I was a smitten kitten, completely infatuated with a few of them, and struggled to maintain focus while I was around them. But, God was faithful, and I managed to come home blessed, revived and ready to begin a new journey. And always with a few new e-mail addresses.

Hey, I never claimed to be a nun.

Truth and Peace came and went as it always did, and I was excited to see who would come home with the “Darin Gatsby love spell” this time. It was like a game for me…kind of like The Bachelor on NBC, “which one will he pick” this year? Inevitably, I was right. There was a new match-up with a girl from my town and by the sounds of things, this one was a lot more serious than fling with Samantha the year before.

I laughed and was completely and utterly baffled that he could find a new one, from my town, every year. It was uncanny! I couldn’t believe this guy. It was as if he was on a mission, set out to capture a small hometown girl. I knew then and there that I had pegged Darin right from the very beginning and that he was definitely not the type of guy that I would ever be interested in. Ever.
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  2. Totally bought back memories of summer chuch camp! It was hard to pay attention to the lessons with Godly young men around espcially when they were so cute! I could not resist a strapping young man holding a Bible, worshiping God boldly, and wishing they would ask for my number! Haha, I'm so glad God had other plans in mind then what I thought I wanted. Life turns out so much better with God directing it! Can't wait to hear what happened next in your love story!
