The Purse That Stops Traffic.

So. My Mom and I have these Coach bags that are simply divine. I received mine for Christmas and this is what she looks like!

I can't find a picture of Mom's online, but it is purple and you will see it later in the post.

Stay with me...

The other day, Mom, Levi and I went to Babies R Us to stock up on some goodies that we needed. We strolled the aisles with confidence because now that we have a baby, we know what we're doing. We know what we're doing because we have tested so many different products and finally figured what works best for us. And trust me, we have done a lot of testing!

We perused through the bottles, diapers, wipes, pacis, etc., grabbing what we needed along the way. The store that was once so overwhelming and intimidating is now second nature to run through. Who knew this day would come?

Toward the end of our shopping trip, Levi started to get hungry so we whipped out a bottle and he commenced to eating. Mom carried Weebie as I threw our purchases on the counter and loaded the bags back into the big purple cart. I always wonder why they chose purple to be their cart color.

We wheeled everything out to the car and Mom jumped in to finish feeding Weebs and to change his diaper. It was approximately 872 degrees outside that day, so I was trying to shove everything in the trunk as fast as I could so that I could bask in the air conditioned refuge that is the front seat. The bags at Babies R Us are unusually gigantic, and we had several large items for Mom's house, so it took me awhile to put it all away.

As I finally finished, I wiped the sweat from my brow and began pushing the cart to the cart corral, when I noticed that it wasn't as far away as I thought. As the torturous sun beat down on my face, I decided to just give the cart a good push and let it find it's way to the near cart corral on it's own. I watched it make it's way home when suddenly it made a slight turn and kept going. There was another corral behind the first and my cart made it's way toward it with beautiful grace, so I headed back to the car and planted my hot body (we're talking temperature here, people) in front of the AC.

About 15 minutes later, we finished feeding and changing Weebie and made plans to meet the guys for supper. Mom asked me to hand her her purse so she could put on some lipstick.

Um....

"I don't have it, Mom...I must have put it in the trunk."

She jumped out to grab it and it was not there. She frantically pawed through the back seat and it was not there either. Oh. My. Goodness.

She ran inside the store to see if she left it there and I suddenly remembered seeing it in the cart. I jumped out and re-looked everywhere. I turned that car upside down looking for it. It was no where to be found. I scoured the parking lot for our cart and then realized that I never watched it to completion. I never saw the cart hit the corral.

I then realized that the entire parking lot is on a massive incline. To me, it looked like the black route on a ski resort at that point. I gulped as I didn't see a lone cart anywhere in sight.

About that time, Mom walked out with her purse and a giant smile on her face.

"You'll never believe it - they found my purse in the middle of 71st Street and it was blocking traffic!!!", she said.

She was trying to figure out how on earth her purse planted itself in the middle of one of the busiest hi-traffic streets in our city and I screamed.

My. Cart. Flew. Down. The. Incline. And. Picked. Up. Force. And. Jumped. The. Curb. And. Landed. In. The. Middle. Of. The. Street.

I felt like an IDIOT.

I told Mom what happened and apologized all over myself. By the grace of God, a kind man stopped his car, picked up her purse out of the Babies R Us cart and returned it to the store. All money was in place and not a thing was missing. Not even a tic-tac.

Mom's purse totally blended in with the cart and as I was hurriedly loading the car, I totally overlooked it and pushed it away with the cart. I will never, ever, EVER push a cart again without watching it make a complete stop.

See? Same color. Geeeesh.

  26. Another "too funny to be true but I know it is" story from the comedy team of Whitney and Terry. I was telling Dennis about it and he said he wished he could follow you two around sometime just to listen and watch all the fun. Levi is in for a rollercoaster with Mommie and Glamma.

  32. i did the same exact thing with my wallet- here i was doing a quick run into the grocery store to pick up last-minute bbq essentials and i thought, 'oh, i'll just be SO SPEEDY and SO SMART and just take my wallet and keys' and then i promptly left my silver wallet in the silver cart in the parking lot. i actually drove away and had to drive back and lo and behold, there it was. after i pawed thru every. single. cart. in the parking lot.

yeah. i take my purse now.

  34. Now that is a great story. :D

  35. Oh my goodness, that is so scary! Im glad nothing happened to your gorgeous bag! I have to ask - are you talking about 71st street in Tulsa, OK? I wondered when I read the story because I live there and we have a Babies R' Us on a 71st street and it also has a steep parking lot. If you are, that makes this story even more crazy because THAT 71st street is CRAZY busy! What a day you had!

    ReplyDelete
  36. That was the best story with a happy ending ever. LOL
