Big Boy.

I had my 31 week check up yesterday and it went great. My blood pressure was right on target (woo hoo!) and little Levi is just growing away! I texted Mom before my appointment and said, "I have a feeling he weighs about 4 lb. 7 oz. because he feels so huge in there!"

Guess how much he weighed?

4 lb. 7 oz! I felt like such a good mommy! I totally guessed it! I was pretty shocked, actually. He grew so much in 2 weeks. I knew he did though because I feel him in my ENTIRE stomach now, rather than just on one side.

The Doc said she wants to induce me later on before he gets too big for me to deliver. IF my body doesn't cooperate with being induced (praying it will, so pray with me), then they will have to do a c-section because she said she doubts my body will deliver a baby that big (if he goes full term). Hmmm. I don't want to do that. Nope, not at all.

But if it's safer for Levi, and safer for my body, then I'm all for it.

If he keeps growing at the rate he is now, he will be 8 lb 7 oz at my due date. Don't women deliver big babies like that naturally all the time??? I sure thought they did. I feel so excited that I will meet Levi sooner that I expected! I will DEFINITELY have a baby before June 18, my friends. I only think I have 8.5 weeks left. Who knows when that little booger will make his surprise debut.

I can't believe it. It is so close. Closer, I think, than I even realize. Oh my goodness, I'm going to have a baby!!!
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. Just remember - it's not so much the size of the baby, but the size of the baby in relation to your body and your pelvis. Bubba was only 7 lbs 6 oz when he was born, and I had to be induced because my dr said that he was so big for my body she could actually see his outline when looking at my profile! Judging from your pictures, you're way tinier than I am too.

I can't believe you're already at 31 weeks. EEK! How exciting!!!

  2. So exciting! I'm surprised that they are so confident about how big he will be, they have never been right when they guess how big my babies will be. My doctor said that my first baby would probably be only 5 pounds, but she was 7.8! Also, you might want to be prepared to go to the hospital, but expect to go until your due date. I have seen so many women who just knew that they would go early go on to be really late. Just a suggestion. See you next Tuesday!

  3. Yay for a good check up!! :) I hear I may get to see that lil/big baby bump soon!?

  4. I was 9lbs 12oz at birth and two weeks overdue. For some reason my mother's doctor didn't induce her.

    No C-Section either.

    I'm not sure I'm that tough! :)

  5. How exciting that you will meet your little one so soon. I am sure that all is going to go well and your going to experience the most emotional time of your life when you see his darling little face for the very first time!

  6. Sam was 8lbs 10oz and, well, he had no trouble getting here. I hope your docs let your body do what it needs to do in order to get him here. Praying for a safe and healthy delivery (and a safe and healthy remainder of your pregnancy-it IS flying by!!).

  7. Praying little Levi comes when the Lord designs. Looks like we may be leaving camp early after all.

Fresh baked bread coming your way this afternoon. Get ready!!!!!

  8. Um...my babies were 9-2; 10-8; and 9-10. Only one c-section with the last one as he had the cord wrapped around his neck and it was a short cord....
First one was NO DRUGS....yea, only did that once...lol
Here's wishing you a safe delivery and a happy family...

  9. My BFF had a 9LB baby all natural and it actually went very well....so it can be done I know! I want to see the nursery...where are the pics already..haha

  10. Wowzas! Were you and D big babies? That's crazy! I can't wait to meet him in person. I'm hoping to pay you a visit in July, if that would be okay. Oh, sweet Levi! And, Maddox was 8 lbs 11oz. He was a toddler when he came out!

    ReplyDelete
  11. well if he's coming sooner than you think... then the nursery pictures should be up soon as well! Can't wait!

  12. My boys were 4600 grams, 4400 grams and 4060 grams. They all came naturally (no c-section).

The first one was induced, and that was NO FUN at all...(never again!!)

I would say: wait until the báby wants to come. Why wouldn't you be able to deliver without any help?

Here in Holland a lot of women deliver at home.....:o))

  13. Praying for you, little Levi, and Husby. :0)

  14. This is crazy! Levi is going to have cute, little rolls! yay!

    ReplyDelete
  15. He is a growing precious little boy :) I know you are so excited for his arrival :)

  16. Jonah was 8 lbs 15 oz. (9 days early too!) He surprised us all. I am sure Husby knows this, but your doctor should not induce you unless you have at least begun to dialate on your own. Otherwise, it is a guaranteed c-section. I was dialated to a 4 and it was a super-easy induction.

  17. My mom delivered twins naturally - I weighed 8 1/2 lbs and my twin weighed 5 1/2 lbs so it can be done! Very few women have pelvises that are too small for an 8-9 lb baby so hopefully the doctor isn't trying to induce or do a c-section just because it's convenient for her. And, keep in mind that although they can get a good idea sometimes of how much baby weighs while still in utero, more often than not they are WAAAYYY off. Trying to schedule induction this early seems insane to me. If you want to do it on your own then you should be very firm about that. Good luck!

  18. Yea for the good doc report! My little Mark was 9-10 and was delivered naturally...and he popped out easier than Cassie who was 6-11.

    Michele

  19. I wasn't dialated one little bit with Abigail and they induced my labor and the medicine worked just fine. It was all the prayers because I truly didn't want a c-section. I will be praying the same for you. I will be praying you have wonderful, loving nurses and your doctor will be great to you. I have every confidence in the Lord that delivery of Levi will be blessed.

  20. It's not bad to have a C-section(if you have to). My mom had a friend who delivered a 9 lb baby, but it was rough. Just do what's best for you.

    Not much longer at all!

  21. He's going to be a big boy! I'm praying everything goes well!

  22. Both my boys were delivered via C-Section. I wanted all natural, but it wasn't meant to be. I'm 4' 11, and MY body just didn't allow it. My eldest just couldn't pass through. I tried and tried and cried, but the more I tried, I was putting him at risk. He was 8 lbs 3 oz. The second was 7 lbs 5 oz. The doctor highly recommended the C because of my first experience. She was glad I did because she said I had some internal damage from the first delivery that delivery via natural this time would have brought on some complications for both me and my child. C or natural - like any mother, you do what you need to do for the health of your child. Good Luck. I can't wait. You make me want to have a third child.

    Toodles.

  23. Yay!! I can't believe it is almost time for him to be here!

  24. My sister delivered her baby at 8 lb 3 oz. She had a little trouble, but it was more related to the placenta than the size of the baby.

I'm sure that all the doctors and nurses (including your husby) will take excellent care of you and help you make the best decisions!

  25. Love big babies !! My 2nd was 10lbs, 3oz and I was not induced and did not have a c-section. It wasn't easy ... but it never is! lol ... My 3rd was big too. I was induced at 38.5 weeks (I as slightly dialated) and glad I did, he was already 9 lbs 3oz ...
    Good Luck to you!

  26. My brother was 8 15 and he was natural and my mom is petite. I'm always leery of doctors trying to get people to induce - I hope they only induce if you REALLY need it and not just so they can schedule it. It seems like everyone is getting induced these days - it seems to go along with technology these days. Doctors don't like to wait for things. I like to think the Lord's timing is better than the doctors. (-: But I'm sure you've thought about all this and trust your doctor and hopefully he/she would only induce if absolutely necessary and she is looking out for you and the baby. that's what's most important. You guys will do beautifully! YAY!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Reading what your Dr. said made me upset, so pardon my emotional response. My sister was 8lbs, 7oz, I was 9lbs, 10oz and my brother was 10lbs 11oz!! We were all delivered naturally! Over 25yrs ago! Of course it's all in relation to YOUR body. If I were you I would ask my Dr. to let me go as long as possible before inducing and wait to see if your little Levi shows his face when he is ready. I dunno, I've never had a baby and I'm not a mom so maybe I'm totally out in left field... but I would choose to wait it out. There is a reason your body and your baby do what they do and for a Dr. to tell you to PLAN to be induced... ooooh.

I'm not you... but I just feel like inducing a baby makes for a much worse labor than if you let it happen naturally. Of COURSE if there is any risk then I am all about doing what you have to do to help him arrive healthy and safe.

(hugs) I'm super excited to see pictures and hear stories of little Levi's arrival! I want it to be as nice for you as possible!!

  28. Hi Whitney,

I'm glad to hear that the check-up went well.

I know it's contrary to what your doctor has told you...and probably the opposite of all the comments that have been left for you...but:

Look at it this way---God is the creator of life. HE is growing that little guy inside of you. HE alone knows when it is time for that little guy to be born. And THAT'S when he should be born. I know you're uncomfortable and you are SO ready to have your body back. Everything hurts and you feel like you're being squished from the inside, right? I know, I've been there...twice! However, it is best to let your little guy continue to grow and thrive in your womb until he is ready to be born. And remember, just because your OB says you should have an induction, doesn't mean you have to, or even should.

I certainly don't mean to degrade your choice. I simply wanted to point out another perspective.

If you'd like to "chat" more about the subject, feel free to e-mail me.

I enjoy reading your blog, by the way. You've got a great sense of humor and seem so sweet.

And...you look SO much like my little sister!

    Have a great afternoon!

    Lori

  29. You've definately got the mommy sense already!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Echoing a lot of others' comments here, but that's really not terribly big. Sweet Son #1 was 8'14 and The Manimal was 7'12. Neither was a c-section. I had a far more difficult delivery with The Manimal, who was a pound lighter than his big brother. I hope your docs don't schedule a c-section based on size only!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think you will go early too! Our friends delivered their son today because he was a GASP...10 lbs and it was still two weeks away from his due date - so they scheduled a C-section because there was no way she could have delivered him naturally - she is the same size as you!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yay!! You'll be an awesome mommy! My friend had a 9 lb baby--but, she is also about 5'9"... So, her delivery was just fine! But, for little ladies, an 8 lb baby would be tough!! My sister is the size of a twig (literally, she waistline was 22 before she got pregnant... I hate her.. no I don't) and her girls were oly 6 lbs--I don't think her body could have handled anything bigger!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. So my friend Jen delievered TWO baby boys who were each over 9lbs. (the second one was over ten)

Since you're tiny, they may have to get Levi out sooner but you know all things with God are possible. You could shock everyone and deliver him naturally *well with an epidural b/c really you're foolish not to use one of those from what I hear* with him weighing 8.5 lbs.

I was 8.1 lbs when I was born so I think having an eight pound baby is awesome. ;-)

Praying for your and Levi's safety--also praying for D for Godly wisdom.

  34. So excited for you! Levi and our Grady will be almost exactly the same age! My doctor told me with Calli that she would for sure be over 8 lbs and she ended up coming 2 weeks early on her own and weighing 7 lbs 6 oz...so you really never know! Our bodies have a really amazing ability to know what they need to do...you will be great! Congrats!

  35. big healthy baby boy!! congratulations!!

  36. That is awesome that you had a good dr visit! I know alot of people have gave suggestions, you and Husby will do what you feel in your heart is best for you and Levi! I am sure the Dr's will continue to watch the growth from here on out...

I am praying for you and your lil fam that things go smoothly!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Aww Whitney! I can't believe how close you are to the end of this!! You're going to be a MOM soon!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's getting down to crunch time. You need to plan one really great weekend for you and hubby to go off and do something really special together and just think it'll be the last time you'll be a twosome! I had 2 c-sections and they went really well. Good luck!

  39. Okay so I have no idea how much my baby weighs but I feel huge at 23 weeks. I feel like I am about to pop! I have gained a whooping 19 lbs so far...I feel like I am either going to be a porker or have a porker! I am actually kind of excited to feel my boy all over too. I only feel him down low right now! I can't wait to scroll through the rest of the blog and read all about what you are going through! Love, MG

  40. yes I would agree with another commentor about scheduling an induction, if there were no reasons to get this baby out fast. I would def be asking why. 8lb 11 oz is not too big for a normal delivery in my non medical opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I haven't read all the comments but I wanted to say a few things...

    a. 8lbs 7oz is not that big. Now if your baby was going to be over 9, closer to 10, I'd jump all over the induction.

    b. I had 4 inductions (not for size, my babies were small), all of which went very smoothly. I was not dilated at all the first time. Make sure they are going to do cervidil first to soften the cervix and if you are already dilating you might not even need pitocin to start contractions. I was very happy with all my inductions and never ended up in a c-section.

    c. The drs can be off by a lb on their estimates, so little Levi could only weigh 3lbs 7oz and end up only being 7lbs at birth.

    d. My last baby, I waited it out. The dr's stripped my membrane on my due date and that sent me into labor. Nothing will beat the feeling of knowing I was in labor and making the decision to get to the hospital (albeit, 15 minutes before she was born). It was such a great experience.

I know how anxious I was to meet my little ones, I was always ready to get it over with by 30wks. It's only a decision you and your dr can make. Sometimes the pelvis is too little for babies to come through but majority of the time nature takes over and little moms deliver big babies. There is lots to think about. Weigh the pros and cons and make your own decision. I do not think there is a safety issue with you waiting, it's more for convenience for you and the dr. Again, I had 4 inductions that went great and I loved them. I also did two of them with no drugs (besides pitocin to get the contractions going). It can be done. Just make an informed decision.
