It's A BLOG World After All...

It's funny how we find people similar to ourselves in this little blogosphere. We read about each others lives, give each other advice and basically turn into virtual "friends". It is strange though, how you can feel like you know so much about a persons life and never, ever have a chance to meet each other in real life.

Unless...you were me this weekend.

Listen to this!

After a really fun and jam packed Saturday at my BFF's daughter's first birthday party, I met up with my Mom to go baby boutique browsing while Husby studied. At the end of our evening, we all met back together for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. We wolfed down some Southwest Eggrolls as our appetizer, and as I was washing it all down with a big gulp of iced tea, something caught my eye.

A group of six people sat down at the booth directly behind my family and me. The guy with spiky black hair caught my eye and I whispered to husby, "I KNOW that guy..."

Husby looked at him and said, "yeah, I think I do, too. He looks really familiar."

I couldn't leave it alone, so I raised up above the high booth seats to see if I recognized anyone else in his party. Nope. I knew he must be with his family because they looked very similar. Except for the girl with the blondish brown mid length hair with her back to me. Hmmmmm.

The waiter brought our food and I whispered to my parents that I thought I knew those people but couldn't get a good look at the girls face. The boy with the spiky black hair came back from the bathroom and it instantly hit me who it was!

"I THINK I READ THAT GIRLS BLOG!!!", I told my family.

I just KNEW that the boy was Luke, from Tales of the Trees, but I still could not get a good look at the girl, who I KNEW had to be Megan, so I wasn't 100% positive. After dinner, we were getting up to leave and I was going to see if I could catch a glimpse of her face to make sure it was her and then introduce myself. My family were all trying to look at her too - I had them just as curious as I was. Just as I was grabbing my purse, she turned around and said, "Whitney!! Hi! I'm Megan from the blog!!"

She made it super easy. I didn't have to creep around their booth and stare her down to make sure it was her.

I KNEW IT! I said, "Ohhh!! Tales of the Trees!!! I KNEW that I knew your husband from somewhere!!" We chatted for a few minutes and laughed about how absolutely crazy it was that we ran into each other.

I left the restaurant absolutely stunned. Not only is this girl just a fellow blogger, but someone whose blog I read every single day! We leave each other comments almost daily and what are the chances that not only did we eat at the same restaurant on the same night - but that we were seated RIGHT beside each other! It was absolutely mind boggling!!

It was GREAT meeting you, Megan. You are soooo sweet. I hope our paths cross again soon! That was way too fun.

And that, my friends, is my very first story on meeting a fellow blog friend in real life. Absolutely insane!

  1. Oh my word - that is so funny. The weird thing is I knew you guys lived near each other because sometimes you would talk about the same things in your posts... Like the Hansen concert, etc...

  14. I had that happen to me both ways - first, I recognized this guy who came into where I worked selling something. Turns out, he was the boyfriend of a girl who's blog I read. Then, when I worked at a scrapbook store, every so often I'd get people looking at me funny and eventually they'd ask if I was Miss M, LOL!

  25. How funny! I haven't ever run into a fellow blogger even though I've met quite a few that live in Utah. I am still waiting to run into Dooce (Heather Armstrong) I love her blog and her pictures and know the "area" she lives in but, hey I'm a blog stalker, not a real life stalker!

So I draw the line there lol!

  26. I was just telling my husband today that I want to send you something in particular when little Levi arrives and he kept asking, "Okay, wait - Whitney WHO?" I tried explaining to him that it's not creepy to feel like you're somehow distant friends with the writers of blogs that you read and love... and that it's totally possible that we might run into one another and we would both be real people, to each of our suprise(s?), lol.

We used to live in the same city you live in and when we visit I'm always scoping out restaurants and stores to see if I might run into you, lol. I always am prepping myself to be brave enough should it ever happen. Also, sometimes when I'm shopping, I catch myself thinking, "Whitney would LOVE this!" When you throw that much "REAL" out there for people to read, it's crazy to think they would NOT feel a sort of bond with you on some level, I think.

Haha... I just realized that this particular post MAY be creepy to you, though, since I read your blog daily but usually don't ever comment, so to you, I'm more like a stranger stalking you than a bloggy friend... So... maybe I should start commenting. I think I'm more spoiled and selfish than I'd like to admit because when there are sixteen thousand comments already made, I get pouty and decide mine would just get lost in the mess and I refrain from adding one more. Then I grumble to myself while logging out about how I never get a turn to say hi. Poor, poor me. ;)

Now that I've taken you from here to there and back, let me apologize for high-jacking your comment section with my own thoughts and say that I'm a huge fan of Glam Life and would probably pass out if we ever did meet, so kudos to you for keeping your cool at the Factory. :)

  28. I've only just met my first few bloggy friends recently when we moved overseas. It was oddly surreal.

    But fun, eh?

    p.s. I'm new here - congrats on the munchkin-to-be.

  29. Hi, I'm new to your blog, but I already like your personality. Anyhoo, that is amazing. I have had the thought that the people whose blogs I read would definately be friends that I would "choose". Congrats on the baby and God Bless on your Journey Home!!!
