Q & A

What is one of your favorite things about being pregnant?
Feeling him move around in my tummy – there is absolutely nothing like it.

What is your favorite time of year and why?
Fall/Winter months. Because it’s cozy, I love the colors and smells and the food is terrific. But the best thing is all of the fun family activities jammed into those months.

If money was no object, where would you go and why?
I would travel the world going absolutely everywhere there is to go and seeing everything there is to see. I LOVE to travel. If money were no object, I would take a few years out of my life to go everywhere and I would bring the ones I love most. Let’s hope that means you. ;)

What name did you have picked out if the baby was a girl?
Kennedy Rae. That is what my future daughter will likely be called.

What is your biggest fear about becoming a mom?
Honestly, getting there. The whole labor thing totally freaks me out.

First off big congrats on your baby on board. As you are into your second trimester I hope things are going well. I want to know your biggest challenge in life and how you have overcome the challenge?
Let me answer the second part of this question first. Overcoming the challenges in my life. I have one source of help in trials and hard patches, and my strength always comes from the Lord. Without Him, I could not overcome the smallest of challenges, and He has been extremely faithful in bringing me through each one with confidence. I don’t know that I can put a finger on THE biggest challenge, because life is full of them. I do know that through each one, my faith grows deeper and I become a little stronger.

When you are alone in the car, do you sing out loud?
Yes, but I don’t scream or anything. I just sing like I regularly do. I’m not a screaming type of person.

And when you are not alone in the car, do you sing out loud?
You betcha! I love to harmonize, so I love to have someone with singing me in the car.

And if you answer yes to the second question, does anyone ever ask you to please stop singing? Or does that only happen to me? *Sigh* ;)
No, I don’t have *many* rude people in my life. I used to get in trouble for singing at the dinner table. It wasn’t allowed, so I would stand up, take two steps back and belt it out. When ya gotta sing, you gotta sing!

How did you and your husband meet?
Oh, this is a long and wonderful story. I will have to share it with you one day in a Pioneer Woman-esque sort of way. Long story short, he moved to my High School our Senior year (but I had met him YEARS earlier in a brief little run in when I was around 14). Little did I know, the “new boy in town” was slowly going to turn my world upside down over the next 5 years.

What theme is the nursery going to be?
I do have this picked out and I can not yet divulge the information. I want to surprise you and show you when it’s all finished. It’s going to be so.much.fun.

What is the best gift you have ever received for Christmas?
This is hard because every year, I received a new “best” gift. It all depends on the stage of life I was/am in.

How do you get the items for your giveaways? Do you provide them yourself or are they from sponsors?
I use the $ that I earn from my google ads to purchase giveaway prizes. I hope you are enjoying them! I will have another giveaway soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

What is your favorite thing about being a wife?
Having my best friend journey through life with me, hand in hand, every single day. There is nothing in this world like marriage. It is fantastic.
I also LOVE all the domestic roles I get to play. I am all for the way things used to be – women at home cooking, cleaning, raising babies, having dinner parties and vacuuming in high heels and pearls, while their husbys go to work in suits and brief case in hand. I was born in the wrong era.

Hmm, don't really have any "new" question that hasn't been asked! How about, "Do you still have your Best Friend from High School?"
Yes, I do! I actually still have several of my best friends from High School, but my tried and true BFF from the 6th grade is very much a part of my life and I don’t know what I would do without her. She is the best friend in the world.

Have you started getting the nursery ready yet? I know when I was pregnant my first time; I couldn't wait to get started...it's so much fun!
I have done tons of scouring, planning and online shopping, but have yet to purchase anything yet or start decorating. Just wait, though. The time is coming soon.

What traditions do you plan on passing down to Levi?
All of our holiday traditions, including your not so typical holidays such as making heart shaped pancakes on Valentine’s morning, and making a special day out of picking out Halloween costumes and things like that. There are way too many holiday traditions to name – especially Christmas. I also plan on having a “Levi Day” and “insert-other-kids-name-here Day” just like my brother and I grew up with “Lukie Day” and “Whitney Day” (aside from our Birthdays!). And of course, I will read him Bible Stories every night.
And….I will make family vacations a priority, just as my parents did when I was growing up – no matter how stretched or busy they were!

What is one thing about your parents that you hope you will display to your children?
Patience, encouragement and constant prayer. Okay, that was three. My parents saturated my brother and me both in prayer every day and gave fantastic Godly counsel. They also encouraged us in every thing we wanted to do, big or small. They still do that, and it still boosts me just as it did then.

Ok my dear, you look very young--which, is fantastic because I am always trying to look young. Any skincare tips? In all your pictures you have amazing skin!!
Well, girl, first of all THANK YOU! You are my new BFF. Such a sweetie, you are. Um, I have horrible skincare tips. I don’t really do much except for wash it in the mornings. I know, I know, everyone yell at me (that is sooo bad of me). But I’ve never struggled with skin issues, so I just keep doing what I’m doing!

Besides the "Skittles" answer-- what flavor would the rainbow be in your world?
I am not sure that I fully understand this question, but here is my answer! Giggles, Sweet Smells, Cupcakes and Diamonds!

Would you ever consider giving all of your gorgeous hair to your fabulous friend Ruthie? She's always wanted red hair...poor, poor Ruthie....
Ruthie, I would love to give you some red. But as long as you give me some of your CURLS! Ah, I love them. I have always wanted naturally curly hair. So. Is it a deal? I’ll chop off some red and you chop off some curls, and we’ll glue them on. We will look gorgeous.

What was your favorite part of your wedding?
The. Entire. Thing. But especially the whole “entering into Covenant with my very best friend” thing. Go here to see the day!

Do people say you look like a celebrity? If so, what celebrity and do you agree?
I had a co-worker who swore I looked just like Rachel McAdams (when she was in the Notebook). I think he was delusional because I don’t see it. I’ve also been told my face reminds people of Rori from Gilmore Girls. I think it’s just the shape. Um, and basically if a celebrity has red hair, people say I look like them - like recently I have heard Amy Adams and Isla Fisher.

How did you come up with the name Levi?
I have ALWAYS loved the name Levi, so it was on a list of “potentials”. It just seems so classic to me. Levi. Awww.

What do you think of the President elect Obama?
He’s got a great smile!

What do you currently do for a living? (Where do you work and what do you do?)
I was wondering if someone would ask me this! I work at the Medical School that my husband attends (is that lucky or what?!). I work for Student Records and I do all kinds of things, but won’t bore you with them now.

What theme are you using for Levi's nursery?
Since I already told you he was a BOY and what his NAME is, I want to leave at least something up for surprise! I will show you once it’s complete.

Do you plan on breastfeeding? Why or why not?
It depends on who you ask, me or my husband! ;) Tee Hee Hee. He knows all of the medical benefits and whatnot, so he tells me I am. I was dead set on NO until about a month ago. I guess we shall see when the time comes. I definitely want whatever is best for my Levi.

What is your address? KIDDING! HAHA! In which state do you reside though? And are you from Texas?
I am not from Texas. I live in a peaceful state with a lot of down to earth people. It’s windy here sometimes, but it’s not The Windy City. We don’t have many mountains…more plains I guess. And ummm…people laugh when I tell them that I truly did go to school with Cowboys and Indians. I swear. Can you guess where I live? (There’s a riddle for ya!)

oh - and I love your dad - he reminds me of my dad in that pic you posted a few days ago. He's so cute!!!
Thank you, I love my dad too. And I think he’s pretty darn cute as well.

How in the world do you find time to blog everyday? Do you wake up at the crack of dawn?
I blog when I have time. Some days, it’s early AM. Other days, it’s late at night. I always blog when I am feeling my best and that is usually one of those two times. And when you work at a desk all day, every day, you think up things to blog about on your down time so that when the time comes to sit and write it, your creative juices flow!

What is Husby's name? I'm sure I'm not the only one that is DYING to know :)
Oh no! I knew someone would ask me this. Hmmm, should I disclose the confidential information or leave you hanging? Um…what should I do, what should I do? How about this. His name is the name of Samantha Stephen’s husband. If you don’t know who Samantha Stephens is, then you are out of luck. But he spells it different.

Are you going to try for a natural childbirth?
No way, Jose. Everyone speaks of the “risks” of epidurals, but as a wife of a Medical Student and an employee of a Medical School, I have been told time and again that epidurals are absolutely there to help us – not to harm us. And I trust them over anyone concerning health. I see it like this, I am not going to stop taking Tylenol because it “may cause” liver damage or asthma. Well, the chances of a risk in an epidural is about as high as that. Keep in mind that this is my personal choice, though! I’m all about the drugs.

Did you have any "feelings" in your belly before you knew 100% that Levi was in there? I know it's random...but I've always wondered if ones belly feels funny :D
No. I did not think I was pregnant at all. I did not have any cramps, though – and that is highly unusual for me, so I wondered if in fact my little visitor was skipping me. She did. Other than that, I felt nothing.

What household chore do you despise the most? And your answer can't be all of them. hehe.
Laundry. I will choose to not elaborate because I hate it that much. I despise laundry.

When the time comes for you to go away after Levi is born (not immediately, obviously) and recharge your battery will you have 1) alone time or 2)girl time (like an overnight or a weekend away) where will you go? Spa, ski, shopping, Broadway?

To be honest, I have not even thought about it! I have absolutely no idea. I will probably do a mini getaway alone with my husband. Who knows when that will be though, because I have a feeling I will be highly attached to my little babe. Maybe when he’s 16. ;)

My question would have to be...were you and your siblings close when you were little?
My brother and I fought like any other brother and sister did when we were young, but we were definitely friends and would do anything for one another when it all came down to it. Even though he tortured me to no end (pinning me to the floor and hanging cheeto spit an inch from my face). Ah, big brothers.

What about you and your parents?

Yes, I’ve always been close to my parents and brother. We have a very close familia!

How many children do you think you want to have?

Ideally, I would love to have two - one of each. But I can’t really say that now because I don’t know how it will be. For all I know, I’ll want 4 or 5! But probably only 2 or 3.

How many brothers and sisters do you have?

I have one older brother. He is 3 years older than me. He no longer hangs cheeto spit in my face. Phew.

Are you the oldest, middle, youngest?

The youngest. I liked it that way. I was the youngest child and the youngest grandchild! It was fun.

I enjoy your faith in God and the fact that you share that with us. Were you raised in a family with strong faith or is this something you came by on your own?

I was raised in a Christian household and I thank God so much for the foundation of faith that was instilled in me at an early age. But there comes a time where you can’t rely on your parents to strengthen your relationship with God – it is something you must do on your own. In my teen years, I realized the importance of a personal relationship with Him and sought Him out more than I ever had. It was a turning point in my life and the real beginning of my journey of faith.

What is the one thing that scares you the most about being pregnant?
After I got over my fear of having Siamese twins (dreams are a terrible thing sometimes), I only had one thing left to be anxious about: Labor.

How do you know when a Smurf
 suffocates?
Ummmm…he stops breathing? Or maybe he turns white.

If you find that your stomach is destroyed by stretch marks and saggy skin after you have your babies, would you be on the anti or pro side of having cosmetic surgery, and why?

Okay. If I were Kate Gosselin, and had six babies smooshed in my womb and it stretched my tum-tum out to Dallas, I would 100% have a tummy tuck if I could afford it. Without a doubt. But, chances are that will not happen to me, and I will more than likely bear my children one at a time. With that said, no, I would not have cosmetic surgery. A friend of mine declares her stretch marks as a “rite of passage” into mommy-hood, and that is such a great way to look at it. But, fingers crossed, my pregnancies go like my mothers did – not one stretch mark on her entire stomach! She has shown me! It’s insane. For now, I’m dousing the Vitamin E. ;)
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  9. The good news for you is that stretch marks are purely genetic. No amount of lotion or vitamins will keep them away if they are set on coming. Some women just get them - some women just don't.

When is your due date? Did you ever share that?

If I had to guess, I would say it's around June 9-13 sometime.

  26. I'm glad you're open-minded about nursing! I am by no means a nursing nazi, but I definitely think it's worth giving it a try (and by "try", I mean giving it 3 weeks). My milk didn't come in until Caleb was 4 days old, so we had to supplement with formula that first week. I wanted SO BADLY to give up breast feeding and just stick to the bottle, but I had told myself that I'd at least give it one week and if I didn't hate it, I'd keep trying until 1 month. Now, it's waaay convenient, seeing as he eats 6 times a day (that's 6 bottles to clean if he was taking formula). I think whatever you choose will be the right choice, though, because YOU are the Mama!!
