To The Bella Band and Beyond!!

The time has come, folks.

My pants HURT when I button them. They feel fine in the morning and as the day progresses, I am in absolute misery. I have a few pair that I can keep buttoned all day, but for the most part, you can bet your bottom dollar that they are unbuttoned if you see me past 1:00 pm.

Friday after work, a few friends and I went to see a movie. I had been complaining about my pants all day and I had them unbuttoned and my cami pulled down over the top. It wasn't really helping the cause. I forgot my pre-purchased ticket at my desk and as I bolted back into my office to grab it (up two flights of stairs and running the whole time), I had to keep one hand on my pants to keep them from slipping down. Because when I ran, dooooown my zipper went. It was then and there that I decided it was time to start wearing the Bella Band.

I did some research on the web to see if I was hurting Baby Lovie by wearing less-than-loose pants and found that it is recommended to start wearing maternity pants by 10 weeks. I am now 11 weeks, still not showing to the human eye, but geeze, my pants hurt!

And I think it's a bad sign when you take your pants off at the end of the day and you have permanent indentions on your skin.

So, I think I will introduce my Bella Bands to my wardrobe this week and see how it goes.

Wish me luck!

Does anyone have any success/failure stories with Bella Bands or any similar item?

For those of you who don't know what they are - it's a band that fits over the top of your pants, like a half-cami or something, so that you can keep wearing your regular jeans/pants, but you can keep them unzipped and unbuttoned! The Bella Band keeps them up. Genius, huh?

And guess what? Baby Lovie is THIS BIG this week! He has grown so much!

Mommy's divine little lime. Awww.

  1. I have the same problem with my pants, but sadly for a very different reason, lol. (i decided this morning in the shower that it was diet time).

  2. Oh that must be so uncomfortable - yuk! Sorry I have never been preggers so I can't give you any advice. Hope it helps!

  3. I'm 12 weeks with baby #2 and have pulled out a pair if size samall maternity jeans...and they feel like heaven. I can still wear most of my pre preggers clothes, but with discomfort. You can also loop a rubber band around the button, through the button hole and back around the button for a little extra wear.

  4. I never had a Bella band..That sounds like a very smart idea. And you are so lucky...I think I was "showing" at 2 1/2 weeks. Sigh....;)

  5. I used the Bella band the beginning of both my pregnancies, but as I got bigger, maternity pants were totally more comfortable!

  6. Can't wait to hear about it. Let us know if you like it. It sounds like a great idea!

  7. I have not been pregnant yet so I can't tell you from personal experience...but I will tell you that one of my close gf's did use the bands and LOVED them. She never wore maternity pants because she loved her old jeans so much and the band worked perfectly with them!

  8. I told you this already, but I love the Bella band! I think it is one of the best inventions ever. I recommended it to my sister-in-law and she lost all the wonderfulness about it because she thought it was for when you get big. It does work then, but it's perfect for right where you are! I am not a big fan of maternity pants, so I try to use the Bella band, drawstring waist or low-waist pants, or I just buy jeans in a bigger size. I finally realized it was justifiable to buy non-maternity when I realized I would have more babies and could loan them to other people. I now have an array of different size pants!

  9. I haven't heard of them but go treat yourself to some bigger fitting clothes...it will be fun!

  10. Never wore the bella band, but I remember my first pg pants. After weeks of struggling with the zippers, they felt like heaven. I predict we may all need the bella band after a big thanksgiving meal!

  11. never tried the belly band-but been in your shoes...I worried that my pants would fall down when I didn't have a hand to hold them up. (Purse, kid, keys..no hand to hold up pants when preggo!) Wish I knew about it, there were too many close calls...

  12. I have a friend who swears by her Bella Band. She is pregnant with baby 2, and she loved it with her first pregnancy.

I've been thinking in investing in one just to use during the holidays...for all of the eating I am going to do!

  13. I loved my Bella Bands. I got the kind with the lace on the bottom so they would look like camis peeking out from under my tops. The ones they sell at Motherhood (their brand, one size) are gross though.

I was explaining them to one of my coworkers, and another guy was evesdropping. Finally he says, so, they're stretchy? And comfortable? And you can have your pants undone all day? I'm like, yeah! He says to me, you have NO IDEA how jealous I am of you right now!

  14. Its probably best that you start using it. I can just see us having a fire alarm go off and you jump up really fast and there go your pants! That would be so funny! Well, funny to me at least! :)

  15. I wear a bella band every day. They're stylish. They're comfy. They good conversation starters. I'm not pregnant, nor have I ever been, but when I want that extra kaloche that Mike Kinsey just brought in or I'm über PMSing, I break out the band. I call it my Ruth-wants-to-eat-extra-today band. I hear they're good for pregnant ladies, too. Oh! Whitney, hey, you should try one!

(seriously though, my friend tried them and she adores them. She also would get old camisoles she didn't wear anymore and cut them and have the cut part under her shirt, so it wouldn't show and she said they worked just as well as the bands. I also had a pregnant friend who made a shirt out of a pillowcase, so maybe my friends aren't the best examples.)

  16. My sister used one and absolutely loved it, sometimes I wish I had one, and I'm not even preggo!

  17. I used the bands from Motherhood Maternity and they saved my life! ;)

No, really. By about week 8 I was feeling uncomfortable in my pants and the bands let me wear my non-maternity pants until about week 16 or so. I think they might work longer for other people, but the way my belly was shaped, my pants were starting to slide out from under the band. Use them while you can! :)

  18. I'm unbuttoning some of my pants by the end of every day, too. It's just too much! And I totally have the indentions in my skin at the end of the day, too. My cousin is 32 weeks pregnant and way past the Bella Band days. She's bringing me all of her Bella Bands to use, so I'll get mine on Thursday at Thanksgiving-- just in time-- and will let you know how they work.

  19. Aww Baby Lovely is getting so big!!

  20. Bella Bands are wonderful! I saw that Target carries them now, which is great (I had to go to Motherhood Maternity to get mine). I bought a black one so it would look like a cami if it ever peeked out under my tops. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  21. (Oh, and I agree that maternity pants are more comfortable than the bella bands. As scary as it might seem to dive into maternity wear, there's a reason it's so popular!!)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Awww, what a sweet lil' lime!

I've never heard of bella bands! What a fabulous idea though!

  23. I've been considering buying a Bella Band but it seems like a lot of money to spend on a piece of fabric. I've got the bloat, though, so I've had to unbutton my pants, too, while at work. I try to wear long shirts but you can usually tell that my pants are unbuttoned.

  24. Good luck with your Bella Band! I actually lost 18 lbs. right before I got pregnant, so when my smallest pants started getting to tight early in the pregnancy, I just went up to the bigger size pants I was in before losing the weight. I never tried the Bella Band myself - let us know how it works. My best clothing investment that made my belly the most comfortable through my whole pregnancy was Secret Fit belly jeans from motherhood maternity. $40, but worth every penny. I found that a lot of the other maternity pants/jeans were very uncomfortable or the band was just too tight. I hope you're able to feel more comfy soon! And yay for your cute little lime!

  25. Wow!! Baby Lovie grew a lot! I cannot wait until you start showing.. (you better post some belly pics!)

  26. I'm 14 weeks as of yesterday (and the size of a lemon!) and I've been getting by with a hair band through the pants trick....I actually researched the bella band last week and I think I'm going to get one tomorrow, because it might be more comfortable.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i used the bella band and loved it! seriously, i wore it every day!

  28. HE HAS GROWN SO MUCH! WOW!!!!

I've heard of buttoning your pants with a rubberband for this not quite maternity clothes stage. I've also heard of just biting the bullet and buying some of those hip cotton wait pants! I'd go for it. They are stylish now and I bet oh so comfy!!!

I'm looking forward to maternity clothes - Target rocks!

    :)

  29. I do agree that the bella band rocks but it also has its set backs. Just know that your a** may peek out from time to time and you will be adjusting it like crazy. Every time you sit, bend over or reach. I did love mine though.

  30. I have never heard of the bella band. Wow, I'm way out of the pregnancy loop! I can't believe Baby Lovie is already the size of a LIME! Wowza! See you this weekend?

  31. I gained weight so fast, I dived right into the maternity wear at about this time for you...Never heard of the bella band though. My favorite now to prance around in are XXL pajama pants when I'm just hanging at home. & I had various friends/sister loan me their maternity clothes, such a $$$ savings ;-)

  32. A friend of mine used the bella bands and loved them! She said she could still look "sexy and sophisticated" and though she felt "enormous and whale-like!" haha Hope the bella bands do the same for you :)

  33. Sounds great therewere no such things when I was preggers 12 years ago! ha

  34. Ashley swears by the Bella Band! They have successfully gotten her through 2 pregnancies. And, a lime is a big baby!

  35. Stacy bought one a couple of weeks ago and loves it :-) I always marvel at the things you can purchase these days for a prego or baby... Too cute!

  36. Say a certain girl was feeling a bit bloated/guilty from a certain huge bowl of ice-cream she ate tonight...could this girl fudge it a little bit and wear a Bella Band pre-pregnancy!??!?!

    ;)

    They sound so comfy!

  38. The Bella Band is awesome, I did my own post about them :) I have a black one and a nude one... another bonus for the nude one is to wear it over the maternity jeans that have the huge navy blue panel because it camoflouges it under white shirts... kinda like how you are supposed to wear nude bras with white shirts. I heard they make great tube top style nursing bras for later too :)

I LOVED the Bella Band. It worked not only at the begining, but at the end when my pants started trying to slip off my hips..lol
