A Secret. Shhhh....

Friday nights are date night in our house. With a Husby who studies all evening, every evening, we have set aside Fridays as a no-study night since day one of Medical School.

And they are my favorite.

This particular Friday night was a sneaky one. We dressed up in black clothing, donned our sunglasses and large hats, and made all precautions that no one would recognize us. Then we set out for our secret expedition.

Um, okay, so we didn't dress in black or wear any strange head pieces, but it made for a better story.

We started out the evening with a fantastic dinner at Red Lobster. We sat talking and eating for a few hours, just enjoying the night on the town and the alone time together. We looked at our watches and decided that it was finally time to leave. The final leg of our journey was fast approaching.

9:40 came sooner than we realized as we pulled into our destination. We were in a small town with very nice accommodations for exactly what we needed.

And it was a better way to stay anonymous.

We clasped hands as we stepped out of the car, took two deep breaths and pushed onward. We knew it had to be done.

I opened the two large doors in front of us and headed toward the woman behind the counter. I took one look at Husby and said, "I'll do this."

He nodded in agreement and took a step back.

"Two, please. For High School Musical 3."

Ah, I did it.

The woman smiled at me and I smiled back, with an unspoken exchange between us. I then grabbed my buttery popcorn and diet coke and coaxed Husby in with a few gentle pushes and we took our seat.

There were only about 15 other people in the theatre with us, as we chose such a late screening in a small town. We did that on purpose, you see. I had to plead with Husby to take me, because I absolutely love both of the other HSM movies. And any other movie that bursts into song mid-sentence, for that matter.

He pretended like it would be pure torture for him, but secretly, I think he likes the movies. After all, I have caught him singing the songs from time to time. :)

Who can blame him? They're just so darn catchy!

So, there you have it. One twenty-five year old pregnant lady and one twenty-six year old guy went to see HSM3 on their date night. And they were not ashamed.

Well, I wasn't.

I told Husby I can't wait until the Baby gets here so we can have more excuses to go to things like this....without hiding, that is.

  2. lol- You guys are so funny.

I begged my 13 year old neice and 12 year old cousin to let me take them.. Seriously. They laughed at me and said, HSM was so last year. Ugh.

So what did you think? Better than the first 2 or just as good?

  4. Ha ha! So funny. That's why it's so much fun having a kid that age...a great excuse even though many times I have to convince him to go to some of them!

    Have a great day!

  5. LOL! You are so funny!:)

I have tortured my husband with a musical or five over the years too. But my boys (16 and 13) have forbade us from watching any HSM 1,2,or 3).;)

But not to worry..they have been exposed to some classics...The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, and Grease...*sigh*

I'll come to your house and see these HS musicals with you and Baby Lovie.;)

    God Bless,
    Amy:)

  11. That is so very cute, and what a great date! What a wonderful family you have!

I haven't seen the HSMs. My 17 year old daughter saw the first 2 but isn't interested in the last one. She said she heard there is too much "drama" and not as much singing. She LOVES musicals. She is even majoring in theater production at Auburn next year.

We have "girls night" once or twice a month and were talking about a movie to go see; we will have to give it a try! I will tell her YOU said it was GREAT! :D

Oh, and for all the great "kids" movies I get to see because I have kids, there are a lot of losers in the bunch... Master of Disguise ring any bells? No? Haven't seen that one? Hmmmm... But we still had fun, even at that seriously lame movie! :D

  13. You are so funny! I have to take my 10 year old daughter so I have an excuse. The last 2 movies were on at home so the girls would have parties but the moms would be enjoying it just as much.

  14. That is so funny! I've never seen any of the movies but I should go see HM3 because it was filmed right here in Utah!

  17. I'm hiding in the closet of HSM. Hubby is traveling and I hinted that I would like to go to my 13 yr old son (I Know, I Know). He very quietly looked at me and said "get over it, there is no way." I'll have to wait for the DVD I suppose or sneak off by myself.

  18. Girl, I would have been right there with you!

  19. Friday night date night is a great tradition! We do Friday night family movie night now that we have kids. Makes for such a fun evening together!

And I too love movies that break into song mid sentence. I secretly wish that life was really like that. There are many moments (especially during college in the cafeteria) that a song and dance would have made a great moment GRAND!

  20. Whitney Dawn...You are not alone! Greg and I went and saw it Saturday...one of the kids in our student ministry is a features extra!!! Love ya! Ash

  21. You guys are too funny! I am going to have to refrain from teasing Darin about this! I love Red Lobster! The salad, the biscuits, the shrimp-yum, yum!

  22. :D Just wait - Sweet Pea will open up a whole new world of "sanctioned" cartoon/kid show watching. It's a wonderful thing.

Sounds like y'all had a fun night!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh fun! I really want to go see it, but there is no way I could convince my DH to go with me. I'm sure it will have to wait for a girls night out.

  24. Awwww Whitney...you are too funny!

I'm so glad you had a wonderful date nite!

  25. You are so comical, Whitney! Kids really are the best excuses for doing dumb things and avoiding judgment! Loved the story!

  26. It's OK...you don't need to feel ashamed. There are others just like you. Maybe we need to start a support group?!

  27. You can always borrow Katie if Darin decides to quit being such a good sport. She loved the first two. We will have to put the other one on our list of things to do soon.

  28. That was too funny! I have never seen any of the movies but maybe I need to start! :)

  29. Thanks for the sweet comment you left on my blog! I am glad you had a fun date night! I haven't seen any of the HSM movies, but I do love my cartoon movies. My husband and I were the only adults without kids when we went to see Finding Nemo a few years back! :)

  30. I have not seen any of the movies - I think I will catch up on them this weekend! Glad you are such an advocate.

PS - yes - it is from Wicked.

  31. Good for you!! I really want to see it, I just haven't seen any of the others, but they all look so good to me!

  32. You guys are funny. Is this movie kind of like Newsies? I LOVED (and still love) Newsies...my first musical movie! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. You had me laughing out loud:) Your husby is great cause there is no way mine would go for that. I don't even know if he would go if we had the girls!

  34. Oh, you are headed towards greatness. Let me give you the BEST family planning advice ever: Have your kids 12 years apart. Case in point: I got to go see the Raven Symone movie with my 4 year old (It rocked) and Nick Lachey with my 16 year old. I'm not sure which one I adored more but my kids were the PERFECT entrance into both.
