Born To Be Wild.

Husby went against my wishes last weekend and bought himself a new ride. He LOVES it! It actually is a really cool bike, but still - it makes me nervous. I don't want to be a single mother for the rest of my life if something goes wrong.

I tried to talk him out of it, with the reasoning that we are going to be PARENTS in seven short months, but then I remembered that he has been saving for this long before I became pregnant, so I can't just up and smash his dreams just because we are starting a family. So, being the good little wifey that I am, I put on my happy face and told him to go for it. After all, he couldn't pass up an offer that good. It cost almost exactly what he had saved for a bike.

It's not that I don't trust HIM. He's a very good and cautious driver. It's the OTHER crazies on the road that I don't trust.

But he loves it, and loves to go riding with my brother and dad, so I guess I'm excited about it, too.

In a forced kind of way.

But that doesn't mean I don't freak out and pray constantly when he's out on it.

And he does look really cute on it.

This bike was made in 1983 (it's MY age!), sure doesn't look that old, huh? It's pristine!

Hmmm, maybe I should run out and buy me some leathers and a pink helmet. What'cha think? :)
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. Yeah, that's scary, I put the kabosh on one too, we got a boat instead.

  2. My hubby used to have a bike and I felt the same way - It wasn't that I didn't trust him, it was all the other crazy people on the road - totally understand you there!

Just pray when he is out riding - that's what I did for years...

  4. I would be a nervous wreck! Still, I'm sure he is giddy about it!

  5. Whit, what is with the young men we love and care about? It's not mid-life crisis! They're all too young. You are like me, however. If it makes him happy it's hard to pout. Boys and their toys. Why can't they just love normal stuff, like dishes and decorating and baking????

  6. Your Husby is about the 3rd guy this week I know..(or know of) that has bought a motorcycle..

    Boys and their toys..lol.

  7. I don't think I would be as supportive as you are! :) You're such a good wife!

  8. i HATED it when charles had a bike. i was so thankful when he got rid of it. his perspective changed a lot after noah was born. perhaps darin's will too.

  9. It is the other crazy drivers...I won't give you a horror story-and I could-but I sarcasticly told my Hub. "Oh sure! Go get one-just up your life insurance policy to over two million-I hope I'll be set for life, because I know it will pay off..."
(He passed on the bike, we bought a cottage, and a jet ski...)

  10. WOW. Good for him. You won't ever find me on one of those!

  11. Stay off the bike!!!! Until the baby is born ofcourse :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. You and baby could ride in a side car? ;)

I'm with noble pig, I put my foot down about the motorcycle, and got a boat instead.

  13. My husband has wanted a bike for the longest time. Thankfully, we can't afford it so he goes without. I hate those things! They are too scary!

  14. Mr. Newlywed is saving up for one as well...and I am none too thrilled. However, I am sure once he takes the class and has the bike I'll feel better about the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I totally understand you being nervous! I would be nervous also!! Boys and their toys....

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes you are a brave and loving wife. My husband keeps making noises about motorcycles too... I keep putting my foot down, but I don't know how long that will deter him.

I'll be praying for you both! :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. He looks like he enjoys it! Glad to see he wears a helmet...sandy toes

  18. I agree completely that you couldn't just squash his dream... My hubby wants a bike too, but he wants one of those that goes way too fast. Thankfully he hasn't started saving & I'm hoping it's just a phase! But I do think the pink helmet is a fantastic idea!!!! Come check out my blog if you have some free time! It's new, but promises to be full of laughs!

  19. I'm sure "cute" is what he was going for :)

My husband has a motorcycle, too. We were going to buy a helmet and jacket, etc. for me but I told him that we should wait a few months. I'm glad we did!

Think of it this way: When you get those cravings at night, he'll be more apt to accomodate those cravings if he has a sweet ride on which to get whatever your heart desires.

  20. Motorcycles kind of scare me too!!

But you would look really cute with a pink helmet!

  21. My husband has wanted to get one for awhile, we just can't afford it. I don't know how you two do it with Husby in Medical School.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Do they make maternity leathers???

My hubby has been riding since he was 16. Now, his only mode of transportation is a motorcycle. My only request (other than the daily "be careful out there") is that he ALWAYS wear a helmet.

And I pray a whole bunch too. :)

Husby will be fine. And the gas mileage is awesome. Have fun!

  23. Caleb wants a bike again so bad and I hate the idea!!!

    It's scary!

  24. I am definitely not a fan of bikes. I am sure he will be fine though. Kudos for you being such a great wife and letting him buy it! You definitely need the pink helmet!

  25. Boys and their toys! Brian is trying to convince me that he needs to get the new Camaro when it comes out this summer. I'm a LONG way from sold, but I'm sure he'll have some high-dollar toy before summer's done!

  26. Nice bike...they are a blast to ride. I had one a loooonnnggg time ago..lol!

Pink helmet? Good luck ~ we tried to find one when we bought our four wheelers...they're very expensive!!!

    Hugz,
    Michele

  27. I am the same way, it's not that I don't trust my husband (though, let's admit, I am a better driver haha) it's those other insane people out there!! I have threatened his life if he gets a bike, thankfully he just wants a big TV :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't trust the other drivers either! You should put your foot down and tell him he can only ride it in rural areas. NO HIGHWAY!

I think you should get a pink helmet - but wait until after baby so the baby doesn't come out loving to ride. Then you'll have a whole other issue trying to convince Baby not to buy a bike someday!

    You're a better woman than I!

I spend my free time checking out new blogs, so my "blog roll" is constantly getting longer and I read all of the ones currently on it at least once a day. If it makes me laugh with just one post, I'll add it. If one post inspires me, I'll add it. I like to see what else a person who can make me laugh or inspire me might write. Here is the current "blog roll" list:

Thanks for the opportunity to win some Christian-oriented literature. I'm always looking for new books to read, and adding faith into the mix is so necessary to me right now.

  30. My husband talks about wanting one. And he's in the process of getting his pilot's license so I worry all the time about his safety from the other crazies!

    ReplyDelete
  31. well well well, looks like all of our husbands want motorcycles, huh? :) well, thank goodness my husband agrees with me that while they're super cool, and entertaining... they're only useful for about 2 months where i live. (illinois) we'd rather get a boat instead, that we BOTH can enjoy. in safety. with life jackets.

...but that doesn't mean that 2 years from now, if we're more financially comfortable... he won't stop himself from getting one.

what can i say? it IS kind of sexy... ;)

  32. Every guy wants a bike and every woman worries about him on it. Try to concentrate on how happy it makes him -- and pray -- a lot!

  33. My husband went through this phase once. He saved and saved, bought a bike, kept it for a year (barely rode it) and then sold it to get lasik eye surgery. :) I think it is just some guy's dream to have a bike.

    ReplyDelete
  34. wow, a bike! don't let Allison see this! Zack's been wanting one, but she says no for the same reasons you did! I don't think Andy will really want one, so that's good! and yes, the pink helmet would be adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  35. We have a bike too, well it's really my husband's but I ride on the back. And I'm like you, I forcefully love it :)

Now your husby needs to get you a sissy bar for the back so you can ride with! It's a lot safer with the sissy bar (and more comfy :)

We love going on rides, on time we went on a 5 hour ride! My tush was killin me! But it was fun and yes, you definately need a pink helmet!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, a man on a motorcycle is sexy! Just make sure he always has that helmet on. I won't tell you my horror story.
I can see you on the back with a pink helmet and the baby in a sidecar;)

  37. I'm pretty sure our docs would discourage us from riding on motorcycles, sky diving, bungee jumping, or playing any contact sports for the next 6-7 months.
Buuutttttt you should definitely get an adorable pink helmet for after the baby!

  38. So crazy...when we were pregnant with our first son, my husband did the same thing! He loved his bike, but has since sold it and moved on to other obsessions! Love your blog! I have your dream job...and just a heads up...you are going to love it!!! My 2 boys are 20 months apart and keep my busy! Congrats on your little bun in the oven!!

  39. You're going to look fab on it! Yes to the pink maternity leathers!
    Blessings!

  40. AH...boys and their toys! You might enjoy hopping on the the back...just be careful!

  41. Get your husby LEATHERS for a pre-christmas gift. Our friend/employee hit a deer a couple weeks ago and had it not been he was totally faithful in wearing full leathers (he only has a 4 mi ride to work) it would have been soooo much worse. there were skid marks of leather on the road!
Not that you wanted to hear that I'm sure. But leather does its job!
