Vacation Bound and Help Wanted!

Husby and I are leaving in TEN days for a week long vacation to Seattle, Washington and Victoria, British Columbia. Neither of us has been, so when planning out the perfect vacation destination, this came to both of our minds. We are counting down the hours and minutes and are completely excited about our escape from reality.

We love escapes from reality.

Though our reality is actually very fun and satisfying, it is still fun to escape it and go on adventures.

We love adventures.

I have been creating our itinerary so that we do not waste a single second. We have four days in Seattle and three in Victoria, so we will be cramming in lots of sightseeing, shopping, and of course…tons of eating. Eating is a vital part of any adventure or vacation husby and I go on.

Hence the reason Slim Fast is my life right now.

I have scoured my Frommer’s books and surfed the web in attempts to create the perfect itinerary which will in turn, produce the perfect vacation. I am so excited I can hardly contain myself.

Here’s where you come in to play.

No, you will not help me contain myself. I’ve got that covered.

I am asking for any suggestions on wonderful things to do, see, shop, eat, while on this super fun vacation. If you have been to Seattle or Victoria, I would L-O-V-E to have your input, opinions and advice on what I absolutely can not miss while there. I will be forever grateful, and while in those locations that you suggest, I will smile, think of you and be forever indebted to you for introducing me to the “must see’s” or your "best kept secrets" of this foreign place.

On your mark – get set – THROW THOSE SUGGESTIONS AT ME!
I am a modern day homemaker with a passion for family, cooking, celebrating, decorating, travel, and memory making! The Lord has blessed me with the desires of my heart in my husband and our two sons. We recently built our dream home and cultivating a loving and happy haven for my family is where I find so much joy.

  1. I'm sorry, I have not been to either of your destinations so I have no suggestions. You can always check with their boards of tourism for ideas.

  2. Oh you are going to have such a good time. When taking the ferry to Victoria don't sit underneath the horn outside on the ferry deck!!! It's really really loud. Visit Beacon Hill Park in Victoria. It's historical, and picturesque. The waterfront is gorgeous, and so are the horse drawn carriages. Bring good walking shoes, because you can walk all over. Heres a good web site to find some more details.

  5. I'm no help here. I'm actually going on my first west coast vacation next month... but to Oregon. I've heard the fish market (?) in Seattle is a must do.

  6. Sounds like a fun trip. I tagged along with the hubby on business to Tacoma last month, didn't get a chance to check out Seattle which was unfortunate. Here's a link to a great food blog and I think she has another blog about eating out in the area, she may have some good ideas.

The market is a must see, that I know.

  8. As I said, I've never been, but just talking to my husband he has another business trip planned in October, and I'm going to fly out and meet him for a long weekend.

Anyhoo, he highly suggests that you stay in Anacorts and take the ferry to Friday Harbour which is part of the San Juan Islands. Friday Harbour offers many sites to see including a whale watching cruise.

Go to my blog and click on "One for the road" on the side. Look at the June 30th post and there's a picture from Friday Island.

Anyhoo, enjoy your trip, take pictures and share with us when you get back.

    Toodles~

  9. I live in Gig Harbor, just south of Seattle. Gorgeous. You MUST do Pike's Market in Seattle, and if splurging on one fabulous dinner go to Dahlia - for that matter any restaurant owned by Tom Douglas. Serious Pie (another of his) is right next door to Dahlia Lounge and has the best pizza... if you're at Pike's Market and want a to-die-for lunch go to Matt's at the Market. Fish and Chips? Iver's (by the ferry dock and near the viaduct is famous. Great Cosmos there, too. Whatever you do, you'll LOVE it! I'm going to Victoria for five days in Aug. It's all SO BEAUTIFUL! Enjoy!!

  10. On our honeymoon, we left from Seattle for an Alaskan cruise. All that we had time to see in Seattle was the airport and cruise ship port. But our last stop on the cruise was Victoria and it is beautiful! Our stop was very short, so we just walked around shopping and sightseeing. They have a neat Chinatown with cheap shops and restaurants. We ate some great gelato. I bought a nativity set at their great year-round Christmas store! I don't remember what the store is called, but you'll see it in the main shopping district. If I had known then I was going to have a little girl someday I would have bought a cute tea set at one of the quaint shops. Have fun!

  11. Make sure you have your passport or birth certificate and picture ID.
Love Victoria- great museum, gardens and shopping, lots to see including the Empress Hotel.
In Seattle we love the Paramount Hotel's Dragon Palace for yummy snacks at happy hour. Calamari is really good there. Also, lots of new cupcake bakeries in Seattle. The Pike's market and aquarium are fun, as is the Woodland Park Zoo and area.
If you have a rental car the cruise to Victoria from Bellingham and their Alaska Ferry terminal is nice, you can opt to have dinner on the return cruise. My folks love it and go every year.
    Have fun!

  12. I just found your blog off Allison Parker's, and I *love* it. Do the Space Needle and you must do Pike Place Market, downtown. If you are a food network junkie, Rachel Ray showcased a place on the Univ. campus called, "(something I can't remember, but it's on the water)" and they serve fish tacos. it's an amazing place.
